Delighted to have you here :)
My name is Monserrat, but you can call me Mon or Monse!
Let me tell you more about myself:
I was born in Honduras, Central America. My father is from Argentina, my mother is from Bolivia but we lived 12 years in Spain. Being raised as a citizen of the world made me value cultural diversity and made me believe in the idea of global community and social responsibility, especially in Latin America.
For me an outward journey is an inward journey. I am a wanderer seeking wisdom, experience and meaning in the farthest reaches of the globe and the deepest regions of the spirit.
At 14, I discovered yoga with Julia Quintana Sandoval, to whom I’ll always be grateful. I was living in Tenerife, Canary Islands, at the time, navigating my teenage years after a series of moves and new beginnings. Those years of constant change often left me feeling untethered, as though parts of myself were slipping away in the effort to adapt and belong. Yoga entered my life as a quiet refuge, a sacred thread that gently brought me back to myself. Now, as an adult, I can see that this was the beginning of a love story—a practice that has always been there to guide me home whenever I felt lost.
When I turned 17 we moved back to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I started my studies, not only in yoga, I also have a Degree in Audiovisual Communication and formal studies in Photography. But regarding yoga I studied Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Fernanda Miralles, 200hs YTT in Anugraha with Camila Maquieria and Antropotécnica with Santiago Buompadre. The last two were the ones giving me more solid foundations about this infinite world.
As this is a lifelong journey, I never stop studying. I specialized in mythology, symbolism, and archetypes through my 300hs YTT with With Grace & Joy and have continued refining my knowledge through additional studies. I completed courses in Anatomy and Sequencing with Jason Crandell and an Introduction to the Awakening Yoga System with Carling Harps and Patrick Beach. To further explore movement and expand range of motion, I’ve also trained in complementary disciplines like Kalari Payattu and Animal Flow, bringing diversity to my teaching without losing focus on the effectiveness of the sequences and intelligent movement.
I took the course Roots of Modern Yoga with Daniel Simpson through the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies Online, enriching my understanding of yoga’s historical development and cultural context. Currently, I am advancing my studies through Embodied Philosophy, a platform for interdisciplinary education that bridges academic scholarship with the practical application of contemplative traditions. Their approach is the in-depth study of foundational texts and philosophies, examining their historical interpretations and their relevance to contemporary practice.
My heart belongs in motion. Where there is motion, there is freedom, expansion and growth.
While Covid I decided to leave Argentina and moved to Costa Rica where I lived for more than 3 years. I was drawn again to Central America with its wild landscapes and lush rainforests where I found myself as a teacher and where I could also embrace a simpler life.
I managed a boutique hotel, I taught and coordinated two well known yoga studios in Santa Teresa. This gave me the opportunity to share the space of the practice with thousands of people from different countries with different backgrounds and approaches to yoga. I was challenged but fascinated to connect with people across all over the world in the magic of the practice.
I am a witness that in Yoga we all speak the same language; borders fade, cultures converge, and souls connect. In this shared journey, we transcend and celebrate our individual differences and unite in a collective community fueled by social and ecological awareness. That's my goal here.
Nature is my greatest muse and teacher. It's from these wild landscapes that I draw a lot of inspiration, infusing each practice with elements of animal movement, symbolism, and reverence for the world. Call it cliché, but there's an undeniable magic in immersing oneself in the wilderness. I'm endlessly fascinated by the wisdom that surrounds us, and I'm always seeking new adventures, whether it's hiking, trekking, or capturing the beauty of our planet through my camera.
In gratitude for the blessings I've received, I'm committed to giving back. That's why a percentage of every class fee is dedicated to a non-profit organization devoted to the preservation of Costa Rica's wildlife.
Additionally, with the purchase of any of my classes, an additional percentage of the fee is given to the Tantra Foundation, an educational trust devoted to the preservation of the creative genius of Indic and Agamic heritage of India.
The yoga practices that have touched my heart the most were those where symbolisms were intertwined with asana, where a story or myth was told, and an archetype was explored. Our asana practice can be infused with the energy of ancient stories and philosophies, transforming physical postures into powerful narratives.
This journey of learning and exploration is ongoing, revealing that the most beautiful part of yoga lies also in its infinite depths and the profound connections it fosters.
In September 2024, I took the opportunity to move to Australia, the other side of the world. This decision marks a leap into new experiences and opportunities, but it also deepens my desire to stay connected with the communities and practices that have shaped my path. This website is a way to bridge the distance, creating a space where we can continue to practice, learn, and grow together, no matter where we are.
